Princess and the Pea

The last couple weeks our house has been in shambles!  It all started with one small decision which snowballed into a zillion little things!  We've been needing a new mattress for a while now but had been putting off the purchase.  Eventually, we decided it was finally time to bite the bullet. Along with the new, we decided to upgrade the size of our bed.  We went from a queen mattress to a king mattress and boy, it was a journey!

We bought the new mattress on a Saturday and the delivery was scheduled for Sunday!  I was so excited!  We thought it would be easier to manage the new mattress if we moved the existing furniture out of the way (thus making the house a cramped mess).  It was a good idea to get the old bed out of the way so that we could thoroughly dust the baseboards and floor. #allergies

And then the rain came... I love the rain, but I was really bummed that our mattress couldn't be delivered in the storm.  We were in this weird limbo situation where the old bed was moved out of the room, but the new mattress had yet to arrive!  Solution: Slumber party in the living room!  Abby loved it!

Finally the new mattress arrived!!  Once the mattress showed up, I was able to get a better idea of the available space knowing we would eventually also need a king sized headboard and footboard!  Since we are on a budget, we decided to hit up Craigslist to find a new bed.  There are a lot of great options on Craigslist as long as you are willing to weed through the commercial posts and pick it up yourself.

Top: Our room seemed so empty without the bed!  I swear there was an echo!
Bottom Left and Right: After several inquiries, we finally found a beautiful bed!  Jordan picked it up (along with a few other items) and his truck was packed!

Top Left: Abby really enjoyed the living room slumber party!  Since the bed was so low to the ground she could easily jump up and down with glee!
Bottom Left: The new mattress was glorious!!  At this point we had the mattress on a bed frame but no actual furniture.
Right: One of the great pieces of furniture that Jordan found while picking up the new sleigh bed was this gorgeous leather chair!  When I first saw the picture, I was a little worried it would be too large for our living room but I think it works in our house.  And the leather is beautiful!  That decision of course meant that we needed to sell our old chair to make space.
Side note: That day Jordan brought home the king size sleigh bed (real wood), the above mentioned leather chair, a cedar hope chest, a sofa table, and extra box springs in case we needed them!  It was a mad house for a few days!

After we got the new sleigh bed and mattress, we wanted to make sure it was sturdy so Jordan put some extra plywood under the box-springs.

And finally our new bed was done!
I had a blast shopping for and buying new bed linens!  I ended up finding some good deals at Target and Kohls.  I've been very happy with our new "performance" sheets made by Threshold.  I really dig the Threshold color "mint ash".  Since Jordan is not a fan of heavy layers at night, we opted for a coverlet (much lighter than a comforter).  I found a great one for around $60 at Kohls.  It's called "aqua" and made by Jennifer Lopez.  It feels so good to have fresh bedding!
Top Left: Pillows!!!  Yes, I love the pillows and fortunately, Jordan tolerates it (usually).  I found some great pillows from Home Goods!  My favorite pillow is the bottom left.
Bottom Right: The room turned out so pretty and is my new favorite place!

Lastly, I have an update on the grass seed!  We last did yard work in the front yard but Jordan recently put fresh dirt and seed in the backyard.  He planted a fescue seed in the backyard because it is drought resistant and should do well in the shade!
Look at those little grass sprouts!

These pictures are about 2 weeks apart and the grass has been coming in nicely!  It's a little thin and patchy in some areas but, next season I'm sure it'll look great!
