Soil Toil

Jordan has been working really hard this week y'all!  Back in the Fall of 2012 (I think) we had some stone work done to update the flower beds in our front yard.  It was super expensive but turned out gorgeous!  Overall, I'm glad we did this exterior remodel because it makes the curb-appeal of our house so much prettier!

Anyhoo, over the years, the dirt in and around the stonework has eroded away.  It's nothing detrimental, but we felt that we needed much more soil to freshen up the flower beds.  Not to mention I was a little worried about our foundation being exposed in some areas.  Texas is rough on the foundation of a home.

Exposed roots and exposed foundation are just some of the problems were were hoping to solve.

This week, Jordan picked up 2 cubic yards of soil to use around our house.  In girl-terms that is 2 truck loads.  (Thank goodness one of our vehicles is a truck!)

Jordan shoveled all that dirt into the flowerbed and into low spots around our yard.  We are both convinced that we could use a 3rd truck load but I think we are going to wait for a rain shower to see how the new dirt settles.  Depending on the kind of dirt that you buy, 1 cubic yard is $25-$40.
Top Left: This is what the flowerbed looks like after 1 truckload of dirt.
Top Right: The tools!  Oh, and some random rocks and sand stones we found.
Bottom: Jordan's poor truck sure is beat up but it's been a great vehicle for us over the years!

Cheers to Jordan for getting all this done!  We were fortunate to have excellent weather so I'm glad to have this chore done before the 100 degree summer sets in!  Now, we'll see if I find time to plant some spring flowers (or keep the weeds out)!  Weeding is one of my least favorite chore.

And finally for the laugh of the day I've included the following video from the Marx Brothers.  An attorney friend shared this with me and it totally cracks me up! Enjoy!

Have a great week!
