Christmas 2016 - Part 1

Image
Gosh this Christmas season has rushed by in a blur!  We packed in a lot of fun, but it sure went by fast!  I've decided to make this a two part post so stay tuned for part 2 later! Jordan and I kicked off our holiday break by heading to San Antonio to see family.  Since we were driving south, we decided to make a pit stop in Waco to see the Magnolia Market and meet up with Jordan's brother and his family.  I have to say, the Magnolia Market did NOT disappoint!  If you're a fan of Chip and Joanna Gaines or the show Fixer Upper, you'll love this place.  They have a huge store full of beautiful decor, a bakery, garden, and plenty of outdoor space for kids (and adults) to enjoy the fresh air (perfect for a break on a road trip).  If we aren't in a hurry the next time we pass through Waco, I think we'll stop again.  It's the kind of place where you can hang out for a half hour or all day, whatever works for you! These are a few pics from our trip:

Santa Smells Funny

Image
Merry Christmas!!  I hope this post reaches you warm and happy with family and friends!  I'm going to keep this short but I've got some pictures to share with you (Abby themed). A few weeks ago we popped into Petsmart to buy some more dog food for Abigail and ran into Santa Claus!  Apparently, Petsmart annually provides FREE visits and pictures with Santa for any pet!  I thought it was a hilarious concept but Abby seemed uneasy (not unlike the screaming children in the mall).   Santa must have smelled funny because it took a long while to get Abby to look in the direction of my camera.   HA!  She just looks so awkward in this picture! Later we did some light house chores and changed the bedsheets.  I'm biased but the Gails always seems super cute nesting in the sheets. Look at the little mug! In other news, 2017 will continue a few house projects for us.  We've been shopping for new tile the last several months to replace the tile in our kitch

Fantastic Beast and How He's Sleeping

With the end of the year approaching, it feels like there are so many projects that remain unfinished.  Is that just us?  This last month we've been trying to finish random thoughts, projects, and plans.  It's impossible to finish everything but it's nice to get a few things checked off. One of those things was getting to the root cause of Jordan's sleep habits.  The last several months, Jordan and I have been talking about our quality of sleep.  I've already told you about our new bed (you can find that post HERE ).  We both love our new bed, but I'm surprised that Jordan has still not been getting a quality night's rest.  Personally, I take a while to fall asleep but once I do, I'm like a rock.  Jordan on the other hand tosses and turns all night long.  His FitBit readout of the night is always terrible!  SO, in November we finally decided to get him into a sleep study.  The title of this post became our little inside joke because he did the sleep

Arsenals of all Sorts

Morning everyone!  It's Saturday and I can feel Christmas in the air!  Our Christmas shopping is finally done and I'm looking forward to a break from work!  Now, if only Jordan and I could get over our Winter colds...  Unfortunately, the last two weeks we've both been sick.  Jordan bounced back faster than I have, but we've both had mild temperatures, incessant coughing, wheezing, and swollen throats.   I think we are on the upswing though! Some pics of our comfort food and medical arsenal: Top Right and Left: I thought some warm comfort food might be good for Jordan and I so I took my first attempt at making a homemade chicken pot pie.  I must say, it turned out great!  It took longer to make than I expected (I made an extra to freeze) but I think it will go faster next time.  For speed, next time I'm going to try to cook the chicken in advance. Bottom Left: We've gone through a lot of tea in our house lately.  The warmth feels soothing to our

Baby, It's Warm Outside

Image
Hello everyone!  It's been a full month since I've written a post.  It was not intended but I think I just needed a little hiatus to catch up with life!  I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and is enjoying the holiday season!  Even though the holidays are upon us and everyone is buzzing with end of year activity, it just doesn't quite seem like holiday season without cold weather.  I'm sure I'll eat my words but baby, it's NOT cold outside!  It's actually been rather warm the last few weeks in the Dallas area which is strange since I remember snowy Thanksgivings (at least a few)! Okay, let me get right into pictures and catching up... This Thanksgiving Jordan and I went to my parents house and enjoyed a lovely meal!  There's nothing like a Thanksgiving cooked by mom, am I right?  The food was A-mazing and it was really great to spend some time with my parents.  The only bummer is that Scott and Elizabeth couldn't join us.  'Tis the

Fall-tivities: Pumpkins, Rugs, Windows, and Garage Sales

Happy Halloween!  Jordan and I have been busy this month will all kinds of Fall-tivities!  Between work and S&E's wedding , I've been a little behind on posts so I'll get right into the pictures! We took pumpkin pictures!  Our pumpkin patch pictures are just like everyone else's.  #ObligatoryPumpkinPicture.  We like to support our local church's pumpkin patch so we hit it up on Oct 9th to take a few pictures ( top and bottom right ).  And no Halloween is complete without a little candy corn.  It's not my most favorite candy, but Jordan loves it ( bottom left )! We've also been doing a little mini house remodel as you've seen in previous posts .  I've been enjoying our new bed and bedding SO much!  I think the teal, spa, aqua colors are relaxing without being too boring.  With the new bedding and fresh colors, we decided that it might be time for a new living room rug.  Our last rug was a beautiful green and red rug from World Ma

S&E Wedding Day!

My little brother is officially married!  Wow, the time sure does go by fast!  It seems like only last month they got engaged!  I'm so thrilled for Scott and his new wife, Elizabeth!   Jordan and I have been gushing about our weekend in Fort Worth earlier this month.  There was so much to do and it was awesome to see family!   We kicked off the weekend with a casual brunch at the Bird Cafe in downtown Fort Worth which gave us plenty of time to settle into our hotel and get ready for the rehearsal.  Top Left: Me and the ladies on our way to the brunch!  From R to L: Mom, Cindy, Joanie, Christina, and Me. Top Right: This is Elizabeth at the brunch opening a few gifts, with the maid of honor, Michelle,  looking on.  We had some great laughs and delicious food!  Bottom Left: Jordan and I at the rehearsal in the Robert Carr Chapel on the TCU campus. Bottom Right: My older brother, Andy, and his new wife, Christina!   The rehearsal went smoothly and everyon

Rocks I Got

Image
Last month, I stumbled upon a friends FB post and learned about Rocksbox !  Have you heard of this?  It's like Netflix but for jewelry!  I love buying new jewelry but it really adds up if you like to buy quality pieces.  Our budget is tight so I just can't do that on a regular basis! After learning about Rocksbox, I decided to try it out!  I've had a Rocksbox subscription for a little over a month now and have learned how it works: It's a flat fee of $19 per month no matter how many times you get a new Rocksbox.  I signed up for the month to month option because I wasn't sure how I'd like it.  I managed to squeeze 3 Rocksboxes in a single month! If you know you'll love Rocksbox, I suggest signing up for a specific duration (not month to month).  They offer 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months.  The longer the duration, the lower the monthly cost. You get to create a "wish list" and a "stylist" will pull at least 1 piece from your

Weather or not to Paint

I'm not much for spray painting.  I'm more of a brush kind of gal.  But sometimes it's necessary to use spray paint for intricate projects.  Plus, it's faster.  We recently decided to spray paint a few items in our house and I'm really happy with how they turned out!   Top Left: This is just a wooden box that we had on our bookshelf.  It's already blue, I wanted more of a turquoise blue. Top Right: This is a handy bed tray that we've had for a while.  It can be used for meals, making notes, or reading a book since the angle can be easily adjusted.  I actually use this at least once a week! Bottom: This is a wire egg basket. You can still buy them these days at Walmart or on Amazon but I got this particular one from my mom.  Thanks mom! The spray painting begins! We used a Rust-oleum spray paint in "Deep Turquoise" ( right ) found at Home Depot.  While I love the color, I don't think I'll ever buy this spray noz

Princess and the Pea

The last couple weeks our house has been in shambles !  It all started with one small decision which snowballed into a zillion little things!  We've been needing a new mattress for a while now but had been putting off the purchase.  Eventually, we decided it was finally time to bite the bullet. Along with the new, we decided to upgrade the size of our bed.  We went from a queen mattress to a king mattress and boy, it was a journey! We bought the new mattress on a Saturday and the delivery was scheduled for Sunday!  I was so excited!  We thought it would be easier to manage the new mattress if we moved the existing furniture out of the way (thus making the house a cramped mess).  It was a good idea to get the old bed out of the way so that we could thoroughly dust the baseboards and floor. #allergies And then the rain came... I love the rain, but I was really bummed that our mattress couldn't be delivered in the storm.  We were in this weird limbo situation where the old b
