Escaping Entrapment - Visit with S&E

Hi everyone!  I wanted to tell you about our awesome weekend with my brother, Scott, and his wife, Elizabeth!  You'd think we would see each other all the time since we are all in the metorplex but an hour drive makes a huge impact on visit frequency.  I wish we lived closer to them.  At any rate, it was wonderful to have them over for the weekend!

We all share similar interests so the four of us decided to book a trip to the Red Door Escape Room.  Jordan and I have been there once before (last April) and had a fantastic time!  If you don't know what an escape room is, you can read about it in our blog post "Under Lock and Key."  At a high level, they put you in a room and you have to look for clues and problem solve in order to get out of the room.  Don't worry, it's very safe (and that's saying something coming from a person who dislikes all things Halloween).  The Red Door Escape Room assigns a "game maker" to watch your activity, provide clues if you get stuck, and ensure everyone is okay and accessible in an emergency.  The last time we visited, we did the episode called "Prison Break." This time we did the one call "Entrapment"!  Each episode has an "escape rate" which is the percentage of people who escape within 1 hour.  They range from 13% to 33% and fluctuate over time.  Entrapment's escape rate is 33%.

Before our episode began, we hit up a cute pizza place down the road call Taverna Rossa.  They had all kinds of craft beers and delicious looking pizzas.  We each shared a pizza and enjoyed the ambiance.  Elizabeth and I both wanted to sit on the patio but it was just too packed from the beautiful weather.

Us girls were thrilled to try a new place and checked out their interesting interior.  This place had a lot of exposed brick and wood (very manly).
Top Left: They have this riveted stainless steel wall which was really cool and original!
Top Right: Pulley system for a hanging light.
Bottom: This is the restaurant from my view.

Top: This is the four of us full of pizza and ready to go problem solve at the escape room!
Bottom: The shops and restaurants in the Southlake area varied a lot in size/expense but all seemed very spacious and beautiful.  We drove by lots of outdoor embellishments and I thought this was a pretty cool fountain.  Space-ship-like.

Then it was go time!
Top: This is the 4 of us before we became "detectives" and solved a crime in the escape room.
Bottom: This is a picture of us after we dominated!  We escaped with 10 minutes to spare (you have 1 hour total).

S&E seemed to enjoy themselves and I was having a ball!  We were paired with one other couple to round out our group and they seemed really nice (6 people total).  It is a bonus to have a wide range of people with different backgrounds because you never know what you might encounter.

Honestly, the game was more difficult than I thought (and it was one of their easiest).  It wasn't unsolvable but you really have to use your noggin' and move at a quick pace.  If you get stuck for too long, it can really cost you a lot of time.  Some clues are obvious and others take time to unravel.  For instance, you might find something significant at the beginning and not realize you need it until the very end.  And just know how to use the object/clue isn't enough.  You have to have time left to put said object/clue to use!  One must rely on skills that are not necessarily used every day (algebra, geography, problem solving, cryptography, speed, and teamwork).  It's difficult to explain without spoiling the game, but you definitely need at least 6 people to help brainstorm solutions and work on separate things.  At one point, we needed all 6 sets of hands just to keep our progress going.

After we solved the escape room "crime," we headed home to do a little grilling and start a fire.  We'd planned a huge steak dinner with corn, salad, and appetizers but ended up only eating the appetizers.  Everyone was still full from the pizza!
Elizabeth and I coordinated food, but we both out did ourselves (especially E)!  We had amazing bacon wrapped stuffed mushrooms, bacon wrapped shrimp with jalapeno and cheese (my new fav), plus spicy shrimp skewers!  Steak just would have been WAY too much food!

While we were hanging out in the backyard, Lucy (S&E's puppy) was literally hanging from a stick!  She has really sharp puppy teeth and just loved playing fetch in the backyard!
Top Left and Right: It's difficult to tell from the angle, but she is at least 8 inches off the ground in these pictures!  Those are strong puppy teeth!

Top Left: Elizabeth and I visiting on the swing.
Top Right: Lucy was completely tuckered out.  She fell asleep nose to nose with Abby's wabbit.
Bottom: Sunday afternoon after the house had quieted, down Abby was zonked out!  She slept hard the rest of the day and the entire day following.

Sunday evening Jordan and I decided to grill the steaks that we'd planned earlier in the weekend.  Not to worry, they didn't go to waste!
Top: These are just 2 of the 4 steaks we had!
Bottom Left: Onions being sauted
Bottom Right: Elizabeth had helped me make this gorgeous salad!

We had such a blast with S&E and already can't wait until our next get-together!  Love you guys!
That's it for today!
