Fredericksburg

A few weeks ago we took a little trip to Fredericksburg, TX with Scott and Elizabeth!  We'd been talking about taking a trip together for over a year now and we finally got around to it!  There is so much to do in Fredericksburg!  We ate delicious food, tasted amazing wine, shopped the local stores, stopped by Luckenbach, and even made time to go to the Fredericksburg Trade Days!

I took my nice camera with me with grandiose plans to take beautiful photos but ended up using my cell phone more than anything.  Photo credit goes to all 4 of us since we all took various pics!

Top Left: Departure time!  Elizabeth made all 4 of us AWESOME shirts so we snapped a picture before we hit the road!  The quotes on the shirts were hilarious!  "Wine Not?" "Winosaur" and "Screw it" - Thank you Elizabeth for the fun gifts!
Top Right: When we arrived, we popped into a German brewery for lunch and a little beer tasting.  Jordan and I shared a flight of beer which worked out great (I prefer the lighter beers and he doesn't mind the darker flavors).
Bottom Right: Strolling through the streets downtown!  Fredericksburg had so many great shops!  I think my most favorite shop was Rustlin' Rob's Gourmet Foods.  I was in awe of this place!  They have hundreds of canned jams, veggies, fruits, etc. and a zillion more options of salsa, dip, garlic, etc.  And the best part is you can taste EVERY SINGLE THING!  If you're looking for a unique and edible gift, I highly recommend this place!  The pickled garlic was amazing!

After checking into the hotel, we decided to head over to Luckenbach to enjoy the live music and a few drinks.

Top Right: Only in Texas would you see a rooster just hanging out in a tree.  We actually saw about 8 chickens total just enjoying the shade perched up in a tree!
Bottom: The weather was nice and the music was great!  Since it was George Strait's birthday weekend, we heard several of GS favorites!
Saturday was all about the vineyards!  We decided to buy tickets on the 290 wine shuttle so that we didn't have to worry about finding each winery.  Plus, it's a lot safer (always have a designated driver)! Since the 290 shuttle stops at more than 15 wineries, Elizabeth and I did some research up front to figure out where we wanted to go.  There just isn't time to hang out at each stop.  Our favorites included: Torre di Pietra, Becker Vineyards, and Messina Hof

Bottom Left: This was just outside of Messina Hof.
Bottom Right: Jordan and I at Torre di Pietra!

Top: S&E at Torre di Pietra
Bottom: All of us just outside of Becker Vineyards.  We had a blast tasting the wine and then they gave us a complimentary tour around the property!  I was impressed with their spacious wine making rooms and a beautiful cellar!
We later went to Messina Hof where we had the best host!  We all decided the MH had the best (most generous) pours!  Not only that but they rinsed our glass out in between tastings, not with water but wine!  MH was a fun stop for sure!

Sunday morning we stopped by the Fredericksburg Trade days.  Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures there, but we loved picking through all the antiques!  Sometimes you can find fantastic pieces of art or furniture for great prices!  I could have spent all day there with the cool cloudy weather!

On the way home we stop by Enchanted Rock.  I'd never been to the rock before but was amazed at how large it was!  It's difficult to gauge the size from a picture but there is so much history!  You can read about the myths and legends HERE!

After the Trade days and Enchanted Rock, we were all starving!  We stopped by Coopers BBQ to get    some smoked meats!
I'd never been to Coopers before but it was delicious!!!  I loved all the meat and sides of course but the sauce was perfect!  Pictured (top) is our mess of lunch as the 4 of us dug in!  Yum!

That's it for our Fredericksburg trip!  We always have fun with S&E and I'm already looking forward to our next visit!
