Faucet Fix

I feel like we've made several trips to Lowes and Home Depot in the last few weeks...  As you may already know, we recently had a watery incident in our kitchen while doing the demo to replace the tile.  That wasn't fun but, fortunately, it didn't cause any damage.  The latest watery incident was also pretty mild but even a small water problem in a house can cause huge damage.

Our garbage disposal has been acting up lately so Jordan decided to take a peak under the sink.  As it turns out, our garbage disposal just needed regular maintenance but, to our surprise, we found a small puddle under the pipes!  Together, we did a little triage test to pinpoint the source of the water.  Disposal? -nope.  Pipes? -nope.  Vegetable sprayer? -nope.  Faucet? -and we found the problem!

When I turned the faucet on high, water was leaking down the wall and pooling in the cabinet below.  I don't think this has been happening for long, but we went into action mode to clean up the water (it wasn't much).

And off to Lowes we went!  As it turns out, I'm apparently picky about sink faucets!  They all have so many features, heights, finish, etc.  By the way, who in the world would want a separate hot and cold knob?  I don't understand this idea.  Our kitchen sink is stainless steel so we kept with the brushed steel finish and found this pretty Delta faucet that we both agreed would look nice in the kitchen.

Top Left: This is the display of the faucet at Lowes.  It has four parts (faucet, lever on/off handle, side sprayer, and the soap dispenser).  We debated the pros and cons of the soap dispenser but finally decided to give it a try.

Top Left: This is the old faucet.  It is a very simple design (still in stores) but it just wore out (it's 6 years old).  We asked several plumbers about fixing our existing faucet and all of them said, yes, we could replace grommets and rubber washers and such, but such repairs would last only 3 months (even if THEY fixed it)!  I'm sure Jordan could have fixed the leak, but neither Jordan or I wanted to risk dealing with more water problems (mild or otherwise).

And this is the FINAL finished sink!  Isn't it pretty?!  This new faucet is about 3 inches taller than the last one.  I wasn't crazy that it went above the height of our bar counter, but having a taller neck really helps with big pots and pans.  The neck swivels a full 180 degrees and it cleans up nicely!  Side tip about cleaning: Stainless steel is prone to hard water stains.  I highly recommend drying out your sink regularly to keep it looking nice.  I had to put some elbow grease into scrubbing the sink to bring it back to it's sparkly condition.

That's all for today!
