Bake Off to Support Austim Speaks

Image
I've been meaning to share this post for a while but kept forgetting!  Last month (April) was Autism Awareness month and my friends at work are enthusiastic about helping the Autism Speaks charity.  Honestly, I was surprised to learn about the staggering statistics about autism! You might have noticed a lot of publicity to "Light it up Blue " and lots of puzzle piece symbols.  All that is about Autism and you can read more about it HERE ! To support the awareness of autism, my friends and I at work hosted a Blue Ribbon Bake Off!  The blue theme tied in very well with beautiful blue ribbons!  Overall, it ended up looking like the Texas Fair!  I loved it!  Here are a few quick pictures! These are a few pictures of the decor and all the desserts!  We invited people throughout the company to support by baking a dessert and/or coming to taste!  We ended up with 25 entries! To cut the sugar rush, we had lemon water and popcorn.  I'm a sucker for popcor

The Scrapbook Saga

I can't believe we are half way through the week!  Already I've found it to be a challenge to post but I've also learned that when I find the time, I enjoy it a lot. Somehow when I sit down to write this blog, thoughts flow out of me even when I have no idea what I'm going to write about. Last weekend seemed to fly by.  I had a half day off work on Friday so I decided to sit down and work on our wedding scrapbook.  Mostly I needed to take a break from the hecticness at work so I traded that for some productivity at home.  The scrapbook I've been working on has been on my todo list for about 3 years now and though I've tried to diligently work on it, the massive project has taken me a long time to finish.  With all that in mind, I sat down at a table in our messy living room (where said scrapbook has resided the last month) and proceeded to chug.  And then chug some more.  And paste, cut, type, arrange, etc. etc. Here is a quick picture of the table that ha

Cinco de Taco

Hi friends!  I hope you all had an awesome kick off to May!  Last weekend, Jordan and I celebrated Cinco de Mayo with our friends, Rain and Sean, by taking a Taco and Margarita tour through Dallas!  We stopped by 4 different restaurants to sample tacos and margaritas all over downtown!  (Seriously, how did I not know about these tours!?!?!)  As it turns out, the company, Dallas by Chocolate , also offers tours centered around other themes: chocolate, wine, Bishop arts center, brunch/mimosas, pizza & jazz, etc. The 4 of us met up with the tour bus at Desperado's (one of our favorite places)! At Desperado's, everyone received a margarita on the rocks, with chips/salsa/queso, and a taco (beef or chicken).  I just love Desperado's tacos!  We've met the owner several times at a different location and they are always very accommodating and fast! Our next stop was at El Come Taco.  Let's just say they have an interesting menu.... Pictu

I have a new hobby obsession. I've discovered "modern" calligraphy (also called "brush lettering").  I don't know why I find brush lettering fascinating but I think it is SO cool!  It all started when Jordan and I were on an evening walk through our small little town last Fall after visiting my favorite coffee shop (best coffee ever).   As we walked, we saw that a new shop had opened up so we decided to pop in to see the new store!  It felt like walking into Pinterest personified.  This little shop sells prints, art, mugs, and all kinds of goodies, each with elegant brush lettering.  The shop keepers were very welcoming and invited us to a 2 hour upcoming calligraphy class!  I was sold!  The class would be 2 hours of instruction plus a practice booklet and calligraphy marker to take home.  The only trouble is that all the classes offered just didn't work out for our schedule.  Bummer.  Even more disappointing is that I'm concerned this little shop
