It's a Frozen Summer

Now that school has started back up, it's hard not to see the tell-tell signs that Summer is coming to a close.  It's actually kind of an exciting time of year.  The Fall means that football season is here (sun's up, guns up!), it means that boot season is here, and things are about to get super busy.  Love it!

In the bitter sweet spirit of Summer ending, I have quite a picture show for you today.  I'm a few weeks behind in my planned posts, but that's beginning to be the "normal" theme on this blog.  It's okay, we'll live.

Last weekend was Labor Day weekend and we had such an action packed couple of days!  We started in San Antonio on Saturday morning to visit some family and celebrate some very important birthdays!  Our niece, Mady, and nephew, Austin, were turning 4 and 2 years old!  Their birthday is only 1 day apart so the timing is nice for family to celebrate and see them both!  (Don't worry, Brooklyn, we love you too!)

Top Left: Jordan holding Brooklyn and making faces.  Jordan is puffing his cheeks out and the look on her face is priceless.  "Uncle Jordan is just a little strange..."
Top Right: Jordan's mom, Kathy, holding Mady and Austin!
Bottom Left: Brooklyn and I!  She is such an easy going baby so we hung out together.  We also managed to dress alike; both in chevron!
Bottom Right: Mady, Kathy, and Austin

Mady is a big fan of the movie, Frozen, and Austin is a fan of the movie, Cars, so we had a fun double birthday theme!  I loved all the Frozen decorations and Frozen inspired things to do but it was strange to celebrate anything "frozen" when it was so hot outside...lol!
There were LOTS of activities planned for their birthday party!
Top Left: Mady and friends swimming outside!  I totally love these little bathing suits.  One of the designs seriously had a tutu.  A tutu!!!  I know!?  Do they..umm..make that...umm...in my size?
Then, it was time for everyone to "build a snowman" (aka eat marshmallows and pretzels).  I snapped this shot of Austin enjoying himself.  Love these kids.

If you're familiar with the movie Frozen, you'll know that the snowman's name is Olaf.  Olaf's character has a lot of funny lines in the movie so we decided to buy a stuffed Olaf for Mady and Austin as a gift.  We had the stuffed Olaf in the back of the car as we drove to SA and every time we hit a bump, he would say the funniest things.  We'd hit a bump and he's say, "I can't feel my legs!!"

Top Left: Frozen cake theme!  The baker designed an very cute Olaf and Sven.
Top Right: Austin and Mady blowing out their candles!
Bottom Left and Right: Pinata time!  This was a strong pinata so it took a while to break it open.

Then we had bouncy house time!!
Mady just loved the slide.  I quickly lost count on the number of times she went down the slide.  She must have been exhausted after the party.

Jordan and Mady adding an extra bounce at the end of the slide.  I'm not sure who wore out whom.

Just when the party was at it's peak, Princess ANNA showed up!  The little girls went CRAZY and Mady couldn't believe it. Mady was actually speechless!

This is just about the time that I realized what kind of employment opportunities I missed out on in high school.  So...you're telling me.. I could have dressed up as a princess, wore a crown, sang songs with kids, AND make a ton of money doing it?  Why the heck didn't I think of this in HS?!

Top Left: Princess Anna singing with all the girls.
Bottom Left: All the girls around Princess Anna
Right: Princess Anna's gown/outfit.  She had the red hair and everything!

Adults are kids too.  Jordan and Kevan joined some of the brave kids in the bouncy house.
Left and Top Right: I might have to rent a bouncy house for Jordan's next birthday.
Middle Right: Because of the angle, it looks like Kevan is about to destroy Jordan and step on him.  Don't worry, everyone is safe but this picture really makes me laugh.  Mady is in the background with a look of fear on her face...lol.
Bottom Right: Then Mady attacked both the boys and tackled Uncle Jordan.

Sunday morning, Jordan and I drove from San Antonio to the lake.  It was a long drive but was nice in the new car.

Activities at the lake are continual so the moment we drove up, Jordan started helping dad with a little project.  Dad recently bought a tractor for the lake but this isn't your sissy mowing tractor.  It's the real deal.
Top: Dad and Jordan working on a sun shade.  Dad, very ingeniously, designed a sun shade and rigged it up so that he will have some protection from the sun.
Bottom Right and Left: These are pictures of the sun shade in progress.

The tractor came with all kinds of attachments, rigs, and accessories (Jordan says its got a "box blade" and "straight blade" for grading)!  Let's just say dad was pretty excited.
Top Left: Dad on the "beach" grading the path for traffic.
It's a serious machine.

The tractor driving continued throughout the weekend.  It's weird to imagine dad not having the tractor.  Even Sophie got in on the action and wanted a "ride".

Below are a few other random pics from the weekend:
Top Left: Jordan and I riding on the jitney.  We had to test the newly smooth path that dad made!
Top Right: Tommy brought some yummy clams for everyone to enjoy.  They steamed up beautifully!  Ya'll know the food at the lake is always top-notch.
Bottom Left: I suppose this is foreshadowing of blog posts to come.  Dad and Tony are discussing the placement of a pool at the lake!  They are measuring and scheming how and where the pool should be set up.  I'm sure that construction will be interesting to share with you all!  Stay tuned!
Bottom Right: This picture isn't important except that I just love it.  The afternoon sun was hot and there was a swim party of sorts just off the beach.  There are at least 16 people in the water, but all you can see are their silhouettes.

Ugh...and then Scott found this terribly disgusting creature.  I guess this is a centipede?  I'm not really sure what this little guy is called but he was black, orange, and yellow.  Those are all "warning" colors in my mind so he had to stay in the bucket.
Gives me the heebeejeebees!!!  It's hard to see in the bottom right picture, but he has sharp little black pincher's on his mouth.  Ouch.

Lastly, Jordan and I managed to come home with an extra freezer!?!  Yes.  A few weekends ago my uncle Tony went "cootering" and found this freezer in the dump.  That sounds disgusting but you'd be surprised to see what kinds of things people throw away.  This freezer was in pretty good condition except for the power cord.  I'm not sure why someone would have cut the power cord but it was clean and seems to work just fine after Tony rewired the power cord.

Jordan did a little haggling with Tony and the next thing I know this was loaded up in our car!  I was reluctant at first but I'm convinced that this was a really good idea.  We have a super old fridge/freezer (20+ years) currently in our garage so I'm not sure how long it will live.  It isn't a bad idea to have a back up freezer.  Plus, this will come in handy this Fall for Thanksgiving.  Of the two freezers we have, both are french door styles which means the freezer is tall but narrow.  It's always difficult to fit large casserole pans or frozen turkey's in those narrow freezers.  Having an extra chest style freezer will be lovely! :)

After cleaning it up, we gave it another test and this freezer seems to be working just fine!  We debated over the placement and decided to put it under some cabinets.  Hopefully that doesn't end up being annoying.  We'll see how that goes.

That's all I have for ya'll today!  Hope everyone has a lovely September!
