Fire and Ice

Image
Life has been such a whirlwind lately that this post has been in "draft" mode wayyyyy too long! Well, I'm finally gonna tell you about catching a little fire and slipping on a little ice!!!  My lovely friend, Sarah, and I are both fans of the "Hunger Games" book series. We both also happen to be Toastmasters !  If you don't know what Toastmasters is, you should really consider checking it out. It is a professional club that helps members get more comfortable with public speaking, impromptu speaking, and professional networking. I am a founding member of a corporate Toastmasters club and have enjoyed almost 2 years of great friends and fun events! With the movie release of "Catching Fire" on November 22nd (the 2nd installment of the movie series), Sarah and I decide to host a Toastmaster meeting with the Hunger Games theme!! Together, we organized elements from the movie and incorporated it into our regular agenda. Instead of "Table T

Thanksgiving 2013 - Pork is a Nice Sweet Meat

I'm writing to you all as I sit warm by the fire.  Abby isn't far and as per her usual self; she is dramatically exhausted.  The weather in the Dallas area is 25 degrees and has been sleeting all night.  I've got some fantastic pictures to share of our "Ice-pacolypse" in my next post so standby folks! Today, I'd like to update you all on our Thanksgiving break!  It was quite an adventure and came with a lot of new experiences for me. We spent our break at the lake where most of our good stories originate, of course.  I got to see a neighbor clean an 8 point deer he'd recently shot.  I've never seen a deer "cleaned" before, so naturally, I took pictures of the experience to share with you guys. Left : The deer is mounted on a special truck apparatus and was skinned from top to bottom.  I didn't realize the skin separated so easily but that could be the use of a very sharp knife.  You can't see it in the picture but the deer

Hello everyone!  Hope you all are finding this to be a relaxing week as we gear up for Thanksgiving!  I've been meaning to write a post for a week now about two events this month, but after more than a week, I'm just now getting to it! (I think all my posts start off like this.) Let's just say the week did NOT start off well.  I got the "blue screen of death" on my work computer and that ended up being a major hurtle to being productive.  Luckily, my work is pretty awesome and got me a new computer pronto (the old one had been on computer life support). Last weekend, Jordan and I had the opportunity to go to a Texas Tech football game with my parents.  TTU started the season off very well, but unfortunately we seem to have lost every game that matters since our 7-0 streak.  We may not bounce back this season, but we always will root for our Red Raiders. The game we decided to attend was at the AT&T Stadium (aka Cowboys Stadium) against Baylor (r

Jordan and I had a pretty uneventful weekend.  As boring as that might be for the blog, I really enjoyed the relaxation and mellow vibe! Saturday we both went for a run around the neighborhood, something we haven't done in a long time...  This week I'm feeling the consequences of that decision in my legs, hips, and knees.  Ouch. Then we did the usual married couple boring mumbo jumbo (laundry, mow the yard, watch the TTU football game, etc.) The most exciting thing that happened was laughing at our silly Abby and how DIRTY she got running around the backyard with Jordan.  She had mud caked in between her paws and looked like a hot mess.  It was late in the evening and the last thing I felt like doing was bathing her, so she got a half bath just for her dirty paws.    This is a picture of her paws (post bath).  Her paws remind me a little of the Grinch paws with the long furry fingers. You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch! Seriously her fur look like this

Europe Trip! April - May 2013

It's been a while since I could post so I thought I would give you all a picture show of our Europe trip!  We had such an amazing time on our Mediterranean cruise!  I wish I had time to tell you all about every detail but I'll do my best to give you the gist. In April of 2013, Jordan and I started our trip in Barcelona, Spain.  We planned to stay a few nights in Spain before catching our ship and beginning the cruise. This picture is a little fuzzy but it is a good map of the different ports we stopped at while on our cruise. This is a picture of the itinerary we followed at each port.  Excuse all my notes/chicken scratch! Our ship was aboard the Serenade of the Seas by Royal Caribean . Our flight was long with a layover in Atlanta, GA.  We surprisingly had very little trouble adjusting to the time change (they are ahead by 7 hours).  After getting settled in our hotel we headed out to see the sites! At the top of our list was the Sagrada Familia .  It
