The Sky is Falling! The Sky is Falling!
This week has been interesting... On Monday, 4/11 our area got hit pretty hard with hail (again). Yup, we had hail on 3/23, got hit this week, and I think there is more in the forecast. Sometimes the hail storm is short (maybe 5 minutes) but on Monday the storm seemed to last 15 minutes. The noise was scary!
Our house was damaged but since we were on the edge of the storm, we actually were very lucky compared to neighbors and friends just a few miles away. Jordan and I were also fortunate to be home when it hit (about 6:15pm) and not driving on the road. His truck took a beating, but our Saab was safely parked in the garage, thank goodness!
Left Top and Bottom: This is a sample of the hail from our front yard. The size varied from ping pong to golf ball sized hail stones. Most of the damage came from the north, northwest so our windows took a direct hit.
Right: Unfortunately, one of our windows buckled under the pressure and broke. It was a 2 pane window and thankfully only the outside pane broke. The noise was terrifying and I was surprised that the second pane and other windows didn't break!
These are a few more window pictures. The hail hit in the daylight so residents luckily had time to react to the damage. The Home Depot in our area sold out of repair supplies within 1 hour of the storm (tarps, plywood, OSB, etc.). Basically, Jordan has been on the phone with insurance companies all week. Ugh.
Tuesday morning, on our way to work we saw just how much damage the storm had caused. Most residents were hit with baseball size hail!! I can't believe that.
Left: This is a close up of the glass circle on our window. Jordan said it was a racquetball size hole. Yowzas!
Right: This is one example of a damaged vehicles in our area. Those are baseball sized holes in the back window of this car (at least 6 big holes and the rest was shattered). Since this hail storm hit just 3 weeks after the first, north Texas was already cleaned out of rental cars. Those that had damage from 4/11, had to drive their damaged vehicles.
At work we lost 2 trees. Granted, they were Bradford Pear trees (already weak plants) but they were snapped off completely in the storm.
Left: Snapped off tree trunk.
Right: Parking lot full of tree shrubbery.
Lastly, I'll leave you with this short video from our back door. The hail beat up our fence, truck, windows, gutters, and roof, but as I said, we were one of the more fortunate homes in the area. Be safe out there!
